Is it too late for me to change my life?

If you’re reading this blog right now, then I’m going to take a guess that there’s a part of you asking: Have I missed my chance? Am I too old, too behind, too late to change my life?

I want you to take those questions as a sign you’re actually ready for more.

Because if you weren’t meant for more, you wouldn’t even be thinking about it. You would just be going about your day, living your life. The fact that this thought keeps coming up, shows me that you want more. And even though it might feel really daunting and scary right now, I want you to realise it’s possible. And that thought is not going to go away until you start to make a change.

The only thing standing between you and that new reality is a belief that it’s too late.

The Lie of “Too Late”

We’re conditioned to believe that certain milestones should happen by a certain age. That if we don’t have it all figured out by 30, 40 or 50, then we’ve somehow failed. I’ve even spoken to people who think they should have it all figured out by 20! And if I’m honest I used to feel this pressure, of feeling like everyone else had it figured out and I was behind.

But who decided that? And more importantly, why are we still listening?

There are SO many people who started over and created something incredible when others might have told them their time had passed:

  • Vera Wang opened her first bridal shop when she was 40.

  • Colonel Sanders didn’t franchise KFC until he was 62.

  • Oprah was fired from her first TV job before becoming the Oprah we know today.

The timeline you’re measuring yourself against is made up. The only thing that matters is what you do next.

This was my biggest realisation, when you are focused on the steps you’re taking to create the life you want, the timeline doesn’t seem as important.

The Real Reason You Feel Stuck

It’s not age. It’s not time. It’s the belief that says change is risky and staying the same is safe.

Your brain is wired for safety and it wants to keep you in the familiar because familiar = safe. That’s why every time you think about making a change, that inner voice pops up with a hundred reasons why you shouldn’t:

  • What if I fail?

  • What if I waste my time?

  • What if people judge me?

But what if you focused on… What if I succeed? What if this next step is the one that changes everything? What if I look back in a year and feel so grateful to my ast self for just starting?

The fear you’re feeling is normal and it’s a sign this actually matters to you. Learning how to support yourself whilst experiencing fear AND still taking action is key.

The Science of Change: Why Your Brain Resists It

If change feels uncomfortable, that’s because your brain is literally fighting it. Neuroscience tells us that 95% of our decisions come from the unconscious mind, the part of you that’s running on autopilot.

So when you try to shift gears, your brain puts up resistance. Not because you’re incapable, but because your identity is trying to catch up with who you’re becoming.

This is why most people never take action. Not because they can’t, but because they misinterpret discomfort as a stop sign instead of what it really is, proof that transformation is underway.

I want you to recognise that discomfort for what it is, you stepping out of your comfort zone, you doing something new, NOT something bad happening. The more comfortable you get feeling this discomfort the easier it becomes to take action despite it. Being able to support yourself from a mindset perspective and also regulate your nervous system when feeling fear is key.

The Myth of Readiness

Most people wait until they feel “ready” before they take action. But readiness isn’t something you have before you start. It’s something you build through action.

Think about it:

  • You weren’t “ready” to walk as a baby, you just got up and tried, fell over a few times but kept going.

  • You weren’t “ready” for your first job, you figured it out each day, learning as you go.

  • You weren’t “ready” for half the things life threw at you, and yet, here you are, you got through every single one of them.

The more you wait to feel “ready” the longer you will be waiting. And the more you do this, the more behind you’ll feel, and the more self-doubt will creep in. So I want you to shift your mindset from “Am I ready?” to “Am I willing to start before I feel ready?”

The Small Shifts That Change Everything

You don’t need to overhaul your life overnight, that is what I want you to realise. It might look like this is what other people do but you usually don’t see the countless hours, days and weeks of all the tiny steps being made – research being done, conversations with other people, applications made, reflecting and journalling.

You just need to create momentum and that is done through small steps building up over time. One small shift, one new decision, one moment of saying yes to yourself instead of letting fear control you.

Forget about taking a massive leap and think about the small steps you can take so that one day you will wake up and realise you have a completely new life.

I encourage you to list out all the small steps you can start to make – which one do you want to start with?

Visualise Your Future

Imagine yourself one year from now. Waking up without dreading your day. Feeling proud of what you’ve built. Knowing you finally realised you are worthy of the life you want. You deserve the life you want, the career, the money, the relationship.

Know that this is possible for you, it is NEVER too late and I really mean that. Even if you were 90 years old and asking me this. You deserve the life you want and you will get there when you start.

One step at a time, one day at a time.

You’ve got this!
