How to Motivate Yourself (when you just don’t want to do anything…)

Ok real talk, what’s going on? Before you launch into these motivating hacks, I want you to give yourself a moment. The number one 1 thing that kills motivation is overwhelm. So, I want you to take a moment and check in with how you’re really feeling right now? If you close your eyes and think about what you want or need to do, how do you feel? What sensations do you notice in your body? What thoughts come up?

If every time you go to tick off a task on your to-do list your mind and body feels stressed and overwhelmed, it’s no wonder you don’t have any motivation! Don’t ignore these feelings, spend some time reflecting on what is causing you to feel overwhelmed or stressed. This may be something you’re able to work through on your own through journalling or using breathing techniques to calm your mind and body, however, if it feels deep rooted and you want my support, then you can book a free discovery call to discuss how I can help.

And if you’re ready for a boost of motivation try these tips – remember it’s never a one size fits all so try them and see what supports you. I would love to know what helps you or if you have any other motivation hacks, leave a comment below.

Motivation Boosting Tips

Find your push and pull

Establish why you’re motivated by reflecting on your push and pull – write this down somewhere you can see it regularly to remind yourself why you do the things you do.

  • Your Push: What is pushing you away from your current situation?

  • Your Pull: What is pulling you towards what you want?

Connect to your senses

I want you to try connecting with your senses to shift the energy and vibe while you’re trying to do the work you want to do. What helps you get into that magical, excited energy, where you feeling like motivation is just flowing from you? You could create a playlist, light a beautiful candle or drink a delicious hot chocolate. We want this to become an anchor for you so that whenever you listen to the playlist, light the candle or drink the hot chocolate you can tap into that motivational energy.

Think belief before action

At the root of our actions is often a belief so when you’re thinking about the action step you want to take, I want you to ask yourself the following:

  • What does the version of me who has completed that step believe? About myself, what’s possible, the world, etc?

  • What must I believe in order to complete this task with ease?

Repeat these beliefs to yourself as a way to set you up for the day or as you sit down to tick off your tasks.

Share your goals & find an accountability partner

If you’re struggling with motivation, I can’t emphasise enough how helpful it is to share your goals and find an accountability partner. In fact, some research found that you have a 65% chance of achieving a goal if you tell someone about it, and if you set a date to check in on your goal with an accountability partner, the chance of you achieving it goes up to 95%. Share your goals with a friend or if you want to find out how I can help keep you accountable, please get in touch.

Please know that it’s completely normal to not feel as motivated some days, be kind to yourself and recognise where you might just need a break.

Lastly, if you’re struggling with procrastination, I would highly recommend purchasing The Breakthrough Tapes which include a dedicated session aimed at helping your unconscious mind let go of this protective mechanism and stop procrastinating.

I have so much faith in you!
